チュニジア中部ケロアン発祥の伝統技法「マルグーム」で織られたラグです。マルグームは結び織り絨毯と平織りのキリムの中間にあたる技法で、経糸に綿、緯糸にウールを用い、模様の部分だけを結び織りにすることで独特の立体感を生み出します。黒地に赤・生成り・グリーンを重ねた横縞の中に、人物や樹木、幾何学的なシンボルを思わせるベルベル系の文様が段ごとに織り込まれ、物語性のある柄行きに仕上がっています。両端の長めのフリンジにも手仕事の温もりが感じられます。

This rug is woven using Margoum, a traditional technique originating in Kairouan, central Tunisia. Sitting halfway between a knotted pile rug and a flat-woven kilim, Margoum uses a cotton warp and wool weft, with only the pattern areas knotted to create a distinctive raised texture. Bands of black, red, ivory and green host Berber-derived motifs suggesting figures, trees and geometric symbols, giving the piece a storytelling quality. The long fringes at both ends add to its handmade warmth. This is a pre-owned piece that has been professionally cleaned before listing; please also refer to the photos for its condition.
